The Lares Trek is an excellent alternative to the Inca Trail. Taking you off the beaten track with visits to authentic Andean communities whilst being surrounded by stunning mountains, lakes and valleys this fabulous trek offers a real insight in to the lives of the people of Cusco as it once was. Our route takes us through many small village communities that offer a rare & fascinating insight into traditional Andean life. Finally we make our way by train to Aguas Calientes and continue on to Machu-Picchu, the legendary Lost City of the Incas. We have plenty of time to explore this renowned and fascinating site, climb to Huayna Picchu and walk to Sun-Gate as well if you like.Duration: 5 Day/4 Night Highlights: no crowded campsites or trails, walking with the local andean people, Ollantaytambo, Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu!

We will pick you up at your hotel at 5am, and then we will drive in our private van towards the Sacred Valley of the Incas, passing through Chincheros and stopping in the town of Urubamba, (2,700 masl) for a brief toilet break and the chance to buy any last minute snacks, water, etc, Small packed breakfast is served here. Departing Urubamba around 07:15, we have a further 30 minutes drive to the beginning of the huaran Valley, land of the famous white corn crops and the Chicha, the Inca´s favorite corn beer. This is the place where we will meet our horses and handlers, (arrieros), and trek staff. All of our required equipment will be carried by mules and horses. We commence our hike through this beautiful polylepis qeuñas Valley in the Andes with a gentle switchback ascent on a gravel path from 2,800 mt to 3,600 mt with stunning views of the surrounding valley and mountains. where we will have our fresh and delicious lunch prepared by our chef, after a nice siesta, we explore the most isolated community called Canchacancha (no bus route & electricity) and visit some local houses where you may interact with locals, for this would be nice if you may take some toys, old useful clothes, notebooks, fruits or any supplies, they will always be happy to receive it from you. After learning the lifestyle of this local people, hike for 2 more hours to our first campsite, where tents will be ready to get in, then enjoy the high tea or tea time with the amazing views of snow capped mountain, after dinner our guide will show you the Inca’s constellation like: famous southern cross (cruz del sur) cosmic constellations, orion and many others, which were very important Incas time for their agricultural season and now days still is very important for this local people too.

After a delicious breakfast, we will begin our hike to the northeast up the valley, it will take 4 hours to get to the highest point of our trek called Pachacutec pass (4700 mt / 15420 ft), once here, we will enjoy amazing views of glaciers, glacial lakes, llamas, rugged valleys, farmlands.. After time to enjoy the 360º angle views, we begin the descent towards lunch spot, just about 1 hour downhill and it will be located by the glacial lake, with amazing views of the Lares Valley with plenty of Llamas and alpacas. After a little siesta we start hike downhill for 2 more hours to our campsite located by the Kiswarani community (3700 mt), along the way, we will meet with llama herders and local people, and we will interact with them in Quechua language (Inca’s language), of course the guide will be there to translate what they say and teach you quechua language, also you will enjoy the stunning waterfall… At the camp, tents will be ready to get in and then get hot shower will be available for refreshing!! Enjoy tea time and dinner and then to bet in our confortable tents.

Today is the most spectacular day of the trek and Adventure, We begin our hike all the way up for 3 hours till the Hullkiccasa Pass (4200mt/13779ft), once here, we will enjoy the fantastic views of the glacial lakes which are like mirror… Then we head down for two more hours through the farmlands and lakes to Cucani community here is our lunch , here there is a school where we may visit the local school and interact, even play with the highland students. Afterwards we will continue with hike 2 hours more until lares hot springs, where you will enjoy the desired time the natural volcanic hot spring for 2 0r more hours, have dinner, after dinner you’ll have adequate rest.

this day is our day of relaxation, if you want you can go back to the pools after breakfast prior coordination with the guide can make a trek to the town of Lares, an hour and a half walk, return and lunch , and take a siesta. Finally we say goodbye to our amazing cook and horse man, then we take our van for 2.5 hours on the way to Ollantaytambo where we will have our dinner at touristic restaurant. At 19h, we take our train to Aguas Calientes town, where we spend the night at hotel (Presidente or Hostal Machu Picchu – private room with hot shower included)

Early breakfast (05.00am) before taking the 5.30am bus directly to Machupicchu arriving around 06.00am. **Optional for those still able/wanting to walk!: leave 04.30am and walk up to Machupicchu arriving approx 06.00am but only if you really want to hike in the dark so have torches but remember you do not get into Machu Picchu earlier than people who take the bus as they also arrive around 6am to the entrance with the guide. In Machupicchu it is still a 15 minute walk from the drop-off point to the famous views from the South Zone of the farming terraces at the end of the Inca trail. Enjoy the early tour of Machupicchu with your guide who will unfold the mysteries of this magical site, showing you the very best of it! Your guide will spend about 2 hours relating to you interesting and amazing stories, explaining temples and special sectors. Your tour of Machupicchu should finish between 10 and 10:30am then you have free time to take your photos before the 10:30 crowds arrive. At approx 10.45am the guide leaves you at the trail head to to climb Huayna Picchu Mountain ($25) or if your booking was done too late then for the Machu Picchu mountain permit. So best to book well in advance .Also the Inca bridge or Sun´s gate are other good walks in that order.
