Come see spectacular Inca ruins in a remote and scenic location far from the crowds of Cusco and Macchu Picchu. Waqrupukara is unique and sits high on a ridge overlooking the Apurimac River near Acomayo, south of Cusco. A spiritual center for the Incas, you too will feel the harmonious blend of nature and architecture as you contemplate the beauty. First day: Cusco - Sangarara - Huacra Pukara

We start from Cusco, staring down the road, the great river of the Incas (Wilcamayo). For its banks contemplate the towns of San Sebastian, San Jeronimo, Huasao (land of healers), Oropesa, lagoon Huacarpay, here you can see a variety of local and migratory birds, Rumicolca, Huaro (highlighting its eighteenth century church ), Urcos lagoon, Quiquijana, Pampacolca, Cusipata and Chuquicahuana, this place we turn to reach the beautiful lagoon Pomacanchi, Marcaconga and Sangarará. In this village we expect the support staff HEAD EXPEDITIONS PERU with mules that will facilitate our journey. The walk is a rise of 8 hours on the way you will see the Quechua customs, topography, livestock and wildlife. Arriving at Huacra Pukara, we will see how great Andean sunset, where the sun sets between two brackets shaped like an Andean woman offering her son to the sun.

Second day: Waqrapukara - Sangarara - Cusco

Early we visited the archaeological site that is unique in Peru, its shape and construction. It is a cliff on the edge of a great precipice, where enclosures, terraces, barns and even a large cemetery on the slopes are. After accompanied by the head guide visit, we return along the same path, taking more time to enjoy some things that might go unnoticed in the first leg. After a very nice walk we return to the city of Cusco, arriving approximately 7 pm

  • Sleeping bag adequate for temperature of minus 10°c (US$20 for the duration of the trek)
  • Additional horses for extra personal luggage above that of the personal item allowance
  • Tips for the cook, horsemen and guide (HEAD EXPEDITIONS staff receives a fair and decent wage immediately after they end their trip. However, tips are optional but of great appreciation for them)
Packing List
  • A lightweight, waterproof day pack with change of clothes for the whole period of the trek, must not exceed 7kgs
  • Sleeping bag adequate for temperature of minus 10°c (rentable for US$20 for duration of the trek)
